Congratulations Terri Tinkham and Oliver Twist, EasyCare's 2010 Hoof Boot Contest Winners!

2009 Hoof Boot Contest Winner Terri TinkhamNo matter how you look at it, the 2010 EasyCare Hoof Boot Contest and sister campaign, EasyCare Gives Back to AERC, were a resounding success.

Riders enrolled in the 2010 edition of the EasyCare Hoof Boot Contest racked up an astonishing 41,191 miles - almost exactly double the mileage totals for the 2009 Hoof Boot Contest.

For AERC, that generated unrestricted and unbudgeted revenues of $10,298. "We are eternally grateful to EasyCare for their meaningful support of AERC. It was timely and it was very much appreciated," said Randy Eiland, chairman of the AERC Sponsorship Committee.

In addition to the funds paid to AERC, EasyCare also paid out more than $13,000 in bonus mileage cash to the highest mileage riders based on quarterly mileage tabulations. "Now that the year is complete," said Garrett Ford, President and CEO of EasyCare, "we can finally announce the winners of the overall 2010 contest. That means there is another $10,000 in cash prizes we will award this month."

Winner of the EasyCare 2010 Hoof Boot Contest is Terri Tinkham, who rode a mind-boggling 1,715 miles with Oliver Twist. In hot pursuit, 2009 winner, Carla Richardson, rode 1,595 miles with SS Kharady Khid to second place. And in third place is Christoph Schork, who rode Stars Aflame and Double Zell to an accumulated total of 1,435 miles.

Terri and Oliver completed 34 endurance rides in the 2010 ride season. Oliver now boasts 6,735 career miles, and he just keeps on trucking.

Congratulations Carla Richardson and SS Kharady Khid, EasyCare's 2009 Hoof Boot Contest Winners!

2009 Hoof Boot Contest Winner Carla RichardsonIt was a neck in neck competition for first place but Carla Richardson and her horse SS Kharady Khid are the winners this year!  They beat out last years first place winner Terri Tinkham and horse Oliver Twist by just 35 miles!  Carla and SS Kharady Khid logged 1,560 miles this year.  What a team!  Way to go!

Carla is no stranger to riding, but 2009 was only her second year riding endurance.  “I’ve been riding all my life,” she says. “I started riding my grandfather’s broodmares in the pasture when I was 5 years old.”  She enjoys being able to ride the trails, explore new places and meet wonderful people who share her love of horses, camping and the outdoors.

Khid, a 9 year old Arabian whom Carla says is a “very special horse, very tough, but a real sweetheart.”  Carla bought him online without ever actually seeing him in person or riding him.  He had been trained and shown in dressage but had never been out on the trail.  “Despite all our trials and errors, Khid has become a fantastic trail horse.  He’s learned to travel really well, which is essential,” says Carla.  Having started the endurance year in shoes Carla feels that Khid was able to accumulate so many miles because of their migration to hoof boots.

Terri Tinkham and her Tennesee Walker, Oliver Twist, EasyCares 2008 Hoof Boot Contest Winners!

Terri Tinkham, who didn’t start riding horses until her mid-50’s, has won our 2008 hoof boot contest.  The horse she rides, Oliver Twist, is a gaited Tennessee Walker / Standardbred gelding who just turned ten this May. The team has been doing endurance since Oli was six. Terri light-heartedly describes Oli as a  “scrappy little (14.2) ‘pony’ -- he is not a real pony but certainly acts like one.”

Terri says, “I originally decided to go the barefoot route when our only halfway decent farrier moved out of the area. However, in hindsight, I think I would have come to it eventually because Oliver had begun to stumble.

"At about the same time, my riding partner and newly graduated farrier, Natalie Herman (#2 in this contest) had become interested in barefoot trimming and suggested that she bring his toes back to see if this helped the stumbling issues. It did and I was so impressed that I decided to see how he would travel in Easyboots. Imagine my amazement and delight when he not only did not stumble, but gaited much better than he ever had before. I have never looked back. His feet have grown, they are rock hard and I absolutely love the idea that I can keep him barefoot. My favorite application for the boots on the multi-day rides is foaming. For the one day rides, I use Epics on the front and Bares on the hinds.

"Last year we finished in a tie (with Dave Rabe) for 10th place in the AERC National Mileage standing with 1120 miles and so far this year, I am in 4th place, closing in on 3rd with 1070 miles to date.”

Not too shabby for a late starter. Congratulations, Terri!

Dave Rabe has won EasyCare's Hoof Boot Contest for three years in a row now! He does a superb job with his horses and we're happy to announce his third consecutive win.

"The last two years I have ridden over 3500 miles using Easyboots, Epics and Bares on my barefoot horses with no problems at all. I think that Easyboots give the horses less concussion and cuts out any chance of bruising of the soles, and there is less slipping on rocks and slick surfaces. Much of my success in endurance rides is attributed to the Easyboot products. The boots have helped me put 5000 miles or more on four different horses in AERC sanctioned events. I have used them in over 40,000 total AERC miles. I will always use Easyboots on my horses. Thank you EasyCare for your great products!"

Dave has won EasyCare's Hoof Boot Contest for the second consecutive year!

"The Easyboot Epics and Bares that I used this year worked better than I ever imagined possible. They were excellent and worked really well for my horses. I had my shoer trim my horses every few weeks. This was way better for my horses, their hoof walls are stronger. The boots were a lot easier to use than I thought they would be and they held up extremely well. I never had any problem with the gaiters all year.

I thought the Bares were awesome, no worry about buckles. My horses travel just as well in the boots as they do with shoes on and they are much better off being barefoot. My horses are kept in a 10 acre pasture with some rocks and they do just as well barefoot as they did with shoes on. Thanks EasyCare for having the hoof boot contest! I think your boots are the best thing on the market by far and haven’t seen anything even close."

1st Place - Dave Rabe.

“During the last two AERC ride seasons I have ridden over 7,500 miles in Easyboots, mostly on all four hooves over my iron shoes. I prefer to use Easyboots over the shoes. I have not even had one Easyboot come off my horse’s hooves during that 7,500 miles. The Easyboots really benefit the horse by providing extra hoof protection in the rocks, extra traction and a lot less concussion on all the different hard packed surfaces.

I still think that the Easyboots are the most significant product on the endurance market. They have provided me success on over 40 horses and 30,000 miles in AERC events and countless miles on training rides. Thank you for such a great product.”
