"When I first decided to pull my horse's shoes, I was told that I would not be able to event her "barefoot" & that hoof boots are not made for that kind of usage and I might as well just put shoes back on her. Well, we have proven that theory wrong!
I compete in 3 day eventing/ horse trials which is like an equine triathlon. A horse & rider team compete in 3 different disciplines - dressage, cross country & stadium jumping. The dressage phase is usually in a sand arena & is a test of balance & precision, performing a set combination of movements while trying to earn the least number of penalty points possible. In cross country the pair competes at a gallop up & down inclines, through varied footing over 15 to 20 solid jumps and go through a water complex up to 14 inches deep, all within a time limit. The final phase is stadium jumping, which requires a horse & rider team that has already worked hard in the prior two phases to show that they have the stamina & athletisism to complete a timed jumping course in either a sand or grass arena incorporating tight turns & complicated combinations of jumps all without (hopefully) knocking down any rails or having any jump refusals.
After much research & consideration, along with the help of a natural hoof care practitioner, I decided to try eventing my mare in Old Mac G2's. It was extremely important to find a boot that fit securely, had very little chance of coming off, possessed adequate traction & did not have any type of buckle on the front that could catch on a solid cross country jump & possibly flip my horse. The Old Mac G2's have met all our needs, we've completed a full season of events (8 total) as well a numerous clinics & schooling sessions & muddy & rocky trail rides and these boots withstood the abuse & never come close to falling off. My horse moves very boldly in her hoof boots and has better traction than the horses competing in plain metal shoes (without studs). I also feel that she has a much healthier hoof now than when she was shod. And luckily these boots are completely legal to use in both jumping phases. I'll never shoe my horse again! After a fun filled summer of shows & events, I am very pround to list our accomplishments:
- United States Eventing Association 2006 Leaderboard
2nd in the Nation - Senior Beginner Novice Rider
- Mountain States Eventing Association Year End Awards
Champion - Senior Beginner Novice Rider 2006

- Area IX Year End Awards
Champion - Area IX Senior Beginner Novice Rider 2006 @ Abbe Ranch Championships
4th place - Leading Beginner Novice Horse 2006

I feel that our Old Mac G2's have allowed my horse to compete in a healthy, happy manner that has led to her many successess
