The HoofJack® is a lightweight, durable hoof stand and cradle. It's base is a patented, extremely durable plastic that has been specifically designed to be stable and lightweight. Each interchangeable insert is constructed of a lightweight aluminum for strength and durability. The post is topped with a non-invasive rubber cap, while the cradle is constructed of a powder-coated aluminum with a durable woven-fabric sling. The inserts are easily adjusted to any height and held firmly in place with the tension knob. Each HoofJack® is accessorized with a magnet for keeping track of your rasp, hoof knife or hoof pick.
Applications for use
Hoofjack® is designed to support the horse's foot through all phases of trimming, treatment and daily care. Hoofjack® provides a stable support for the horse to rest its foot on, allowing the horse to feel comfortable, secure, and relaxed, while reducing strain to the horse handler's back and knees. Hoofjack® will aid the horse owner, hoofcare professional and veterinarian in performing hoof procedures that would normally require support of the hoof by the handler.
Benefits for the hoofcare professional and owner-trimmer: * Allows you to change trimming posture without having to drop the hoof. * Take your mind off your back and knees and put it back into your work. * Trim, rasp, and shape the hoof. * The solution for the leaning horse. * Accomodates older horses with limited range of motion. * Magnet accessory - for hoof pick, wrenches, farrier tools, etc.... * Conforms to each individual hoof shape. * Made in the USA by a farrier with 28 years of experience.
Other Benefits Other benefits that horse owners appreciate are really about the horse’s comfort. Because of the difficulty of putting a horse’s hoof between your knees and then getting under the horse to work, most horses experience having their legs pulled out laterally and then held in too high a position which then typically results in a struggle. With the Hoofjack® it is very easy to work directly under the horse in a low position which is more comfortable for the horse. Additionally, the suspended webbing on the Hoofjack® cradle is also more comfortable than other cradles because it does not put pressure on the coronary band nor pull on the hair around the coronary band and lower leg as do cradles made of rubber.
Safety considerations For safety and stability, one or both feet of the user should always be on the base of the stand when a horse's foot is in the cradle. Do not leave a horse with its foot in the crade unattended! Hoofjack™ is only for use on horses that have been trained to submit their hoof to the handler. Working with and around horses may be hazardous. Equine Innovations, Inc. is not responsible for damages that may occur due to improper use of this product.
How to use Hoofjack® Cradle height adjustment With Hoofjack® on level ground, stand on base of Hoofjack®. With tension knob loose, rotate cradle head in a corkscrew fashion while pulling up or down. Ideally, it is recommended that the cradle height be at the same height as the user's knee. This will allow the user to place their knee against the fetlock, stabilizing the horse's foot in the cradle. Slight pressure may need to be applied againt the fetlock to prevent the horse from removing its foot from the cradle. Consideration must also be given to the comfort of the horse. For optimal comfort when working with a front foot, the horse's cannon bone should be parallel to the ground when its foot is in the cradle. It may be necessary to raise the height of the cradle when working with a hind leg.
