In Nov. 2005 I bought a little 7 1/2 yr old gelding I'd found on the internet. There was a video clip of him online, and I liked the way he moved. The seller told me he'd never been put under saddle yet, but he had a nice, willing attitude and had been handled alot as a youngster. Wendy brought him to me at the Lake Oroville ride and I took him home to Grass Valley from there.
Sonny was everything Wendy said he was, willing, cooperative, easy to train, and after a few rides in a round pen we started out on the trails. Since he'd never been ridden or shod, I decided to see if I could keep him that way after I started riding him. It worked for awhile, but when we had to ride on hard packed, rocky trails, he'd slow way down. We decided to try Easyboots instead of shoeing.
We struggled with getting them to stay on as we rode long and fast, through water and up & down steep mountains. When the Lake Oroville ride rolled around again, I decided to have shoes put on. It was the only set of shoes Sonny ever had. He didn't like the nail being driven in so we went back to the drawing board with Easyboots.
After receiving much advice from Karen Chaton, I learned how to keep the boots on with Easy Foam. Sonny has now completed two 50 mile rides at the Wild West rides (didn't get an official completion for one of them due to lameness from scratches) and a 100 mile ride, Tevis, with foamed on Easyboots! At the end of Tevis I realized that the buckles on both rear boots were broken and kind of just hanging on the boots. It was one tough ride, but the Easyboots stayed on and got Sonny though a rugged 100 miles of trail with no lameness or lost boots or shoes.
Thank you Easycare for making a boot that can go the distance! Now I'm going outside to foam on Easyboots for the Lake Oroville ride 2007.

P.S. The photo shows Sonny on the right with his foamed on Easyboots the day before Tevis. The other horse is my daughter's Tevis horse, Tico. I wish I'd booted him for Tevis too, as he ended up slipping on the asphalt at the end of the road in Foresthill and was injured and did not complete the ride (:<(
