Old Mac's Multi-Purpose Horse Boots Sizing

Before you begin taking hoof measurements, please ensure your horse has a fresh and accurate trim.

Simply follow the steps below to select the correct size. Feel free to contact our friendly staff for assistance. Sizing is imperative to a good fit. We cannot exchange used boots.

Old Mac’s are available in 9 sizes (0-8) with each size increasing by 5mm (3/16 inch) in width and length. It is important to note Old Mac’s sizes are in no way comparable to metal shoes sizes.

The unique design feature of Old Mac’s allows for width and length adjustment and is therefore suitable for both wide and narrow hooves. Old Mac’s sizing allows for natural hoof growth between trimming. If your horse’s hooves are excessively long and narrow, Old Mac’s Inserts are available separately.

Immediately after a proper trim measure your horse’s hooves. If you intend to use Old Mac’s over metal shoes for transportation then you must take your measurements AFTER shoeing. Correct size selection and proper fitting is very important and will ensure maximum performance from Old Mac’s Multi-purpose Horse Boots™.

How to get the correct size boot for your horse:

1. Hoof Length - Accurately measure your horse’s hoof LENGTH from buttress to toe, and select the corresponding size from the chart below. The heel buttress is the point on the outer weight-bearing wall where it turns back into the bar (see hoof diagram). The length measurement does not include the heel bulb.

    

2. Hoof Width - Accurately measure the width of your horse’s hoof at the widest point. From the chart below, select the size closest to that width measurement.

    

3. The correct Old Mac’s boot size is the LARGEST of the sizes you selected from the charts. It is most often the length size. Sizes determined from hoof length and width will often differ; choose the largest size, NOT the smaller size NOR a size in between.

    

   If the LENGTH exceeds the WIDTH by 4 or more sizes, Inserts may be indicated, but FIRST, please double check to ensure that you haven’t included the heel bulbs in the measurement.

Important Size Notes

If your horse is between sizes, go to the larger size.

If the width measurement exceeds the length by more than one size (an extremely short and wide foot) we do not recommend Old Mac's.

If the length exceeds the width by two to four sizes (a very long and narrow foot), we recommend Old Mac's should be fitted with Old Mac’s Inserts.

Old Mac’s Inserts should ONLY be used:

• If the length exceeds the width by more than four sizes on the size chart

• For a club foot

• If one hoof is distinctly smaller than the other
